The 4th GEO Data Providers Workshop: Earth Observations-based Knowledge for International Policy Frameworks of the Group on Earth Observations international data community will be held in Vienna, Austria from 23-25 April 2019.

This year’s edition of the workshop will be focused on exploring how to best make available Earth observations-based knowledge for international policy frameworks, including the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sendai Framework on Disaster Risk Reduction and the Paris Climate Agreement.

Our 1st thematic video is out! SMURBS project sets the stage for integration of the still fragmented Earth Observation, into information and decision making tools for individuals and local governments, in a network of smart cities. SMURBS’ coordination group and theme leaders explain and present their approach to enhance environmental and societal resilience to urban pollution, natural and manmade disasters as well as uncontrolled city growth, from each theme point of view, respectively. The overall goals of the project as well as first achievements in terms of networking and collection of user needs is also included. You may watch our video and find out everything about SMURBS project!

H2020 project ConnectinGEO presented and pushed forward the state-of-the-art on Essential Variables (EVs) and one of the ERA-PLANET Transnational Call Projects- GEOEssential/ERA-PLANET, picks up on this work and aspires to demonstrate the feasibility of EVs across GEO SBAs, via demonstration workflows that will be using EVs served by the GEO infrastructure, to derive policy relevant indicators.

On February 26 -28, 2019 a workshop dedicated to the VLAB (Virtual Laboratory) as a component of the ERA-PLANET data and model sharing infrastructure held in Florence (Italy). The Virtual Laboratory Platform (VLAB) is a tool for publishing and running scientific models for knowledge generation. From the positive experience in the H2020 ECOPOTENTIAL project, the VLAB has been proposed as one of the major building blocks for the ERA-PLANET Knowledge Platform.


The VLAB workshop is an opportunity for participants in the ERA-PLANET project, to work together on the vision and implementation of the ERA-PLANET Knowledge Platform, discussing and experimenting the functionalities and planned advancements of the VLAB.

minamataConvention

The second meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury (COP2) took place from 19 to 23 November 2018 at the International Conference Centre in Geneva, Switzerland.

IGOSP partners from CNR (Italy) and from Masaryk University (Chez Republic) participated in the Conference with oral presentations.

The Project Coordinator of IGOSP gave a presentation on "Knowledge Lab at COP2: what ERA-PLANET can do for Minamata Convention".
